David Green, a father-of-two, experienced a stroke of bad luck at the start in 2013.
The firm he was working for was downsizing and that meant there was no longer a job for him.
Having been employed for all his working life, he did not anticipate the difficulty in finding new employment.

Mr Green was not able to find a permanent role for more than a year, and then he decided to write a letter to the Argus about his situation.
His luck changed when his letter featured as front page news on February 20.
The response was overwhelming but one reaction stood out.
Mr Green was personally offered an interview with Newport Bus by the managing director of Newport Transport, Scott Pearson.

Mr Pearson said: “We’re always looking for good people with a positive attitude who want to work.

“A vacancy was available for David Green to be trained up to PCV driver and I’m pleased he was successful.

“The requirements in our driver vacancies vary depending on our business needs, sometimes we need fully trained drivers other times we have the opportunity to train our own driving staff.˝
Mr Green started work for Newport Transport at its depot in Corporation Road while undergoing his training to become a licensed bus driver.

He said: “I was very excited to receive the news from Scott Pearson and I would like to thank him for offering me this opportunity.

“I’m keen to take on this new challenge, to learn a new skill and to get on the road to be a Newport Bus driver.˝

Newport Transport LTD runs Newport Bus, NT Servicing and MOT Centre, NY Commercial Driver Training Centre and NT Contract Maintenance Division.
