EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of June 28, 1962:

* The recent opening of Butlin's camp just across the Bristol Channel at Minehead might preclude any development by the holiday camp owner in Barry. That appears to be the position following a decision by Barry Town Council on Monday to make a fresh approach to Mr Butlin to see if he is still interested in a site in Barry.

* At exactly 20 seconds past 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, the Mayor of Barry (Cllr Bert King) made the first ever call on the new Barry automatic telephone exchange - and an operation costing nearly a quarter of a million pounds to give the town one of the most modern exchanges in the country was formally completed.

* There were 28 angry women in Rhoose on Sunday - and the telephone lines between Rhoose and Broadcasting House, Cardiff, were red hot. Tempers flared after the BBC screened an American choir, on a good will tour of Wales, instead of the Rhoose Ladies Choir on their weekly Welsh television feature "O Sul i Sul."

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of June 25, 1987:

* Two rebellious Tory councillors were kicked out of the Vale council's ruling group this week, leaving the Conservatives with an overall majority of just two over the official Labour opposition and the other minority parties. But the feeling in Tory circles afterwards was one of relief that a highly unsatisfactory situation had finally been cleared up. Cllr Tony Hampton and Cllr Hilary James were expelled on Tuesday night after a lengthy and occasionally heated meeting at the Civic Offices.

* Bowling has been temporarily suspended at Gladstone Gardens - because the superb new bowling green there has proved so popular! More than 2,000 people have played on the green since it was opened just 10 weeks ago - and this, together with the unseasonable weather, has left the surface showing signs of wear and tear.

* Saturday, June 20, was a red-letter day for Barry when the £15m Majestic holiday village development was officially opened to resident guests.
