IT was good to see living history re-enacted over the Wartime Weekend (June 15-17) to commemorate the arrival of American troops in Barry in 1942.
Everyone who attended has said how good the event was at Barry Waterfront, as scores of re-enactors transformed the area into a civilian home front.
Many American troops made Barry their second home during the war and married local girls. This was the case with my great aunt Ida Rader (nee Hewitson) who married one of the visitors and later settled with her family in Reading, PA.
The weekend was a success and I would personally like to thank all those involved, including Dr Jonathan Hicks, for organising such a fantastic weekend.
Hope we can see something like this again in future!
Cllr Richard Bertin Barry
