ROB Thomas, who is head of planning and transportation, must by now realise that people do not want ‘an alternative to the single occupancy car’ – and they won’t be ‘changing their travel behaviour by walking or cycling’ (Barry & District News, June 21).

The cycle tracks already constructed are not being used and car use is not falling.

If you want clear evidence of what could happen if this was the case, look what happens to our roads when the school run stops for the holidays. That does make a difference.

I’m sure if you asked people if they wanted to use the money for a cycle track or to fill in potholes, they would say ‘fill in the potholes as they are damaging my car’.

As the £300,000 for the new cycle track at the Buttrills playing fields is our money, recycled by the Welsh Government, I for one want it used to fill in potholes.

We can dream of people giving up their car and cycling and walking – but it isn’t going to happen is it?
