I WAS interested to read the article regarding contamination in the stream which passes through Porthkerry Park (Barry & District News, June 21).
Has there been a shift in the local geography? The comment from the Environment Agency Wales states that the stream flows on to the beach near Cold Knap. This is in error as it flows on to Porthkerry Beach, nearly three-quarters of a mile away from Cold Knap beach!
Steps have been taken to alert the public to the risk of paddling in the stream as notices have been attached to certain trees along the Millward Walk, but have any been posted in view of the public at Porthkerry Beach where the stream permeates through the pebbles before entering the sea? I very much doubt whether dog-owners will heed the warning as most dogs are unleashed once they get on to Porthkerry Park grounds, and they have an affinity for water so it will be difficult to stop them plunging into the stream.
