CONGRATULATIONS to my councillor Ian Johnson of Plaid Cymru, who represents the Buttrills Ward on the Vale Council.
I was already aware he has campaigned incessantly for a new street crossing at the bottom of Buttrills Road, which links up Broad Street to Holton Road (see Barry & District News January 22 “Plans for town centre crossings welcomed”).
The plastic red and white road dividers have been in place there for years, causing some confusion to pedestrians and drivers alike. Many drivers chose to drive past them, do a U-turn opposite Newydd Housing and Elis Fisher Court and then drive up Buttrills Road. A dangerous manoeuvre.
This crossing will also help me and other disabled people as I will shortly be making my way through Barry in a wheelchair as I am now disabled.
Once again, thank you councillor Johnson, your persistence has paid off. By the way, this piece of praise from me is not motivated by political bias. I am not a member of Plaid Cymru or any political party.
