"PLAGIARISM is the wrongful appropriation, stealing and publication of another author's language, thoughts, ideas or expressions and the representation of them as one's own original work" - Wikipedia.
I refer of course to the letter from Cllr Rob Curtis, VoG Biodiversity Champion, "Wildlife Reserve in your garden", Barry and District News 31 July. It contained 467 words, most of which can be found in publications from the Somerset or Dorset Wildlife Trust websites.
It can be quite easy sometimes to forget when writing such letters where the words are actually coming from. Plagiarism is not a crime, but if others have written the words you want to use it is more than good manners to give credit to the original author!!
