TONIGHT (Friday, June 29) sees the visit of one of the UK's finest solo roots blues players, Adam Franklin, to the Coffee Cove on Barry Island.
Franklin is a superb exponent of blues and ragtime from a golden age of American music. With a voice that is both powerful and soulful, he is equally at home on guitar and resonator ukulele.
His performances are intense, energetic and highly entertaining. He is an exceptionally accomplished musician who can attack his guitar with vengeance, making it growl like a hound from hell, but also caresses it, making it sing sweetly.
Adam plays an array of complex and unique rhythms which he applies to both guitar and ukulele. Watching his right hand attack the strings is mesmerising!
Franklin also has a formidable voice which is hugely versatile and he uses it in many different ways.
To complete the package he has a relaxed charm, speaking comfortably with the audience about his life, love of the blues and music in general, and his inspiration for his self-penned songs.
Described as a cross between Robert Johnson and Joe Strummer, he comes highly recommended by the likes of American artists such as Steve James and Alvin Youngblood Hart.
This is his second visit to play in Barry, and is part of his Blues Wales Tour 2012.
Doors open at 7.30pm, with the show starting at 8.30pm. Tickets £5 on the door.
He will also be appearing at RetroVibe record shop, Cadoxton, at noon on Saturday afternoon, and Cafe Jazz, St Mary's Street, Cardiff on Sunday, July 1.
