THE FINAL of the 2012 Vale of Glamorgan Adult Boccia League proved that it is better to be a saint than a sinner, with the Boccia Roller Saints overcoming the Boccia Roller Sinners in a stunning 12-3 victory.

Six teams took part in the competition, which was organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Disability Sport Wales Officer Simon Jones, and held over several weeks.

Very similar to French boules, boccia was originally created for those with cerebral palsy, but is now widely played by individuals of all abilities.

This was the ninth year that the Vale Adult Boccia League has been held, and all participants were presented with a certificate and medal at the Hen Goleg Resource Centre in Barry.

The competition took the form of a round robin league where all of the teams played each other, before three play-off matches decided the final placings. The Boccia Roller Club, based in Cadoxton, enjoyed a very successful season with their two teams contesting the final.

The high-flying Hen Goleg Lancasters won an epic battle against the Hen Goleg Spitfires to take third spot, while in the fifth and sixth play-off the Reach 4 Sport Bluebirds beat the Reach 4 Sport Red Devils.

Vale Council Disability Sport Wales Officer Simon Jones said: "I would like to say well done to all the players who took part. Once again, the standard of boccia played throughout the league was very good with some close games.

"Boccia is a hard sport to be consistently accurate in but everyone played to a high standard."

Boccia is a Paralympic sport and Team GB athletes will be looking for medals in the London 2012 Games. If you'd like to find out more about boccia or any other disability sport in the Vale of Glamorgan please call Simon Jones on 01446 704728 or go online at www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/sportsandplay
