TY Hafan hospice had a welcome boost to its fundraising this week, with support from Cabot Carbon in Sully to the tune of just over £38,000!

"Cabot has been working with Ty Hafan for the last year, with many of its employees helping with fundraising and offering their time for activities such as gardening at the hospice," said Angela Edmonds, UK HR manager for Cabot Carbon.

"The company feels very passionately about supporting Ty Hafan and asked their Corporate-giving Foundation based in the USA to consider giving them a grant.

"Due to the wonderful work Ty Hafan does, and because of how strongly the local Cabot site supports the charity, the Foundation granted the request. They were very moved by the stories they heard from employees about the hospice and the services it provides."

The donation is the biggest grant awarded by Cabot, outside of national disaster donations.

"All the local employees are delighted we’ve been able to help make a difference," added Ms Edmonds.

"We look forward to continuing our local fundraising activities and working on projects with Ty Hafan."

Frank Ady, on behalf of the hospice, said: "The ongoing support from Cabot employees at a local level has been fantastic, and we are absolutely delighted that the company chose to support their bid for this very generous grant.

"With the hospice having been open for 13 years, we have a continuing refurbishment and replacement programme, which of course is in addition to the £3 million needed every year to run our services for life-limited children, young people and their families from across Wales.

"The money from Cabot will be used to cover the cost of replacing all the beds in the family rooms, together with the cost of the multisensory features of the replacement hydrotherapy pool which will be opened in late spring."
