A BARRY youngster missed out on attending a fairytale wedding recently - but won a dream role in Cardiff on the same day.

Eight-year-old Lucy Miles had to decline her invitation to Mel Edgar and Andrew Higgins' fancy dress themed do, but impressed casting directors looking for talent to star in the national tour of Oliver.

The Superstars In The Making student of two years was selected out of 400 children eager to clinch a part in Cameron Mackintosh's world-famous production, when they gathered for the auditions at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Lucy said: "I was really happy and I am looking forward to going onto the stage."

The Ysgol St Curig Year 3 pupil keeps her parents Tim Miles and Nadine Harney and supportive grandparents Laetia and Michael Harney fully occupied.

She also takes part in ballet, gymnastics, Aquafun, and is involved with Billboard Ensemble, Popstars and dance squad Rubix outside school hours.

Five-year-old sister Emily is Billboard Ensemble's youngest member as she aims to follow in big sister Lucy's footsteps.

Mum Nadine, 27, said: "I'm so proud of Lucy and Emily."

Lucy will rehearse in London in October before appearing at the WMC from December 12, 2011 to January 21, 2012.

Fellow Superstars student Oliver Haines-Knight, nine, also of Barry, made it onto the reserve cast list.
