YOU could have been fooled into thinking the Barry Memorial Hall was a war zone on Friday night.
But the air raid siren was only sounded to inform the 160 guests at the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund's war-themed dinner-dance that "dinner is served!"
The evening, arranged to help children in Wales with cancer, was coloured with live band Swingshift, playing Glen Miller, blues and swing; there was jive and jitter bug dance troup Hoppin' Mad; plus personnel from the Welsh Guards, Royal Navy and the RAF, and authentic WWII vehicles.
Given the event was in aid of charity, the military personnel were present free of charge.

Perhaps one of the biggest treats of the night was event organiser Paul Adamson's son Sam's rendition of Billy Paul's Me and Mrs Jones.
Paul said he felt the evening was a success, raising people's awareness of the charity, and feels encouraged to organise similar fundraising events in the future.
It is the intention of the JAM Fund, which managed to raise in excess of £40,000 in its first nine months, to purchase a static caravan in West Wales where young cancer suffers can visit with their families for a much-deserved break.
A BRING and buy sale at St Richard Gwyn RC High School in Barry has boosted the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund by £200. Paul Adamson of the JAM Fund said he is extremely grateful to members of the school for their efforts in collecting such a great amount.
