THERE WAS no game for The Linnets last weekend, so fans contented themselves by attending latest regular progress report meetings organised by Barry FC at The Castle, Jewel Street.

There were statements from the club as to how things were progressing off the pitch, and fans learned that the club's finances remained extremely healthy.

Sponsorship, standing orders, and match day takings were all helping the club pay its bills, but the club treasurer also stressed the need for more volunteers and fundraising activity if the club is to progress and develop in the future.

The retention of Jenner Park remains a priority with the club, and with all costs being covered adequately and with the excellent relationship with the Vale Council continuing, it is hoped that Barry FC will maintain its presence at Jenner Park in the future.

Team manager Ashley Griffiths was also on hand to give his perspective of events on the field of play.

Although he admitted that progress was slower than initially anticipated, he hoped the fans recognised that the levels of fitness had greatly increased recently as training was beginning to take effect.

He also stressed that a genuine team spirit was now evident at the club, and the fact that six members of the squad were present bore witness to this.

The players also apologised to fans for the second-half performance recently against Penarth Saints, and this was warmly welcomed by those present.

The plan for Barry FC to go for Supporters' Trust status was discussed, and this will be investigated further in the New Year.

The idea of a Boxing Day match was brought up, and although fans and players present were eager for this to happen, there would have to be a lot of work behind the scenes for this to occur.

Barry FC take to the Buttrills once more this Saturday, when The Admiral will be the club's next opponents.

Fans are reminded that kick-off times have now been moved forward to 2pm.

Finally, Barry FC have been drawn against Grove Park, from Port Talbot, in the opening round of the South Wales Intermediate Cup on November 26.
