CADOXTON councillors have hit out at plans to extend a Barry supermarket.

German discount superstore Lidl has submitted a planning application to the Vale council to expand its Pencoedtre Village shop by around a third.

The company would need to purchase a nearby residential bungalow to achieve their development, which Cllr Neil Moore deems to be an "un-neighbourly form of development which would affect the enjoyment and amenities of the local residents who live there".

Cllr Moore said that he is constantly receiving complaints about the untidiness of the site, and he believes the Lidl development could lead to an increase in rubbish, noise and disturbance.

Cllr Anne Moore is urging residents in the vicinity of the store to consider the impact the development might have on them, and to write a letter to the council's planning department voicing concerns. Residents can contact councillors Neil and Anne Moore on 01446 721525 or Fred Johnson on 01446 719439.

A spokesperson from Lidl was unavailable to speak to the Barry and District News before going to press.
