A BARRY pensioner is pleading with Wales & West Housing Association to fix his bathroom window after it was damaged over four months ago in an arson attack.

Peter Dwyer, aged 73, is a resident of David Davies House on Wyndham Road, which was attacked by yobs in June.

The yobs set fire to a vehicle in the car park in the early hours, forcing the elderly residents to evacuate their flats in their nightwear.

Mr Dwyer's bathroom window suffered extensive smoke damage during the attack and was subsequently bordered up.

The problem is - four months on - the window is still bordered up.

The former Merchant Seaman said: "Wales and West Housing Association run the complex and so they are responsible for fixing the window.

"I pay my service charge each month to cover things like this."

He continued: "People from the housing association have come around to my flat four times to take measurements, but still nothing has been done.

"I've phoned the office a few times and they put me through to the relevant department, but the people that are dealing with it are always out."

He added: "I just want the window fixed so I can redecorate.

The smoke also damaged Mr Dwyer's carpets, furniture and clothing but he was able to claim for these on his insurance.

Anne Hinchey, operations director for Wales and West Housing Association, said:

"The association is very sorry that the replacement window for Mr Dwyer has taken so long.

"It is programmed for fitting on November 3."
