HAVE YOU ever questioned your existence? Have you ever thought that your life is not real? Have you ever thought you're in a dream? Of course you have, who hasn't? If you haven't, you will after you've seen Vanilla Sky.

David Aames is a successful heir to a magazine publishing company who treats his women like dirt. He uses them until he's bored with them. When he's seeing Julie, he meets a new girl called Sofia. For once, he finds himself in love with her, but Julie is jealous. When David and Julie are in the same car, she drives them off a bridge, leaving her dead and David's face and arm deformed. It's at this point in David's life when everything goes weird and he questions his sanity.

That is as much as I can say because anything more could ruin the film for you. I went to see the film knowing it might be hard to follow and, trust me, it is hard to follow!

Cameron Crowe has directed his most ambitious and smartest film to date. Not only is he creative in the visual style by adopting the use of filters, unusual lenses, special effects and awkward camera angles, he mixes different genres and uses an odd narrative.

The film is really hard to follow but it's this that makes it so good. Despite not knowing exactly what is going on, it's extremely interesting to guess what the outcome is. While the final outcome may not be the best, it still works!

Tom Cruise's performance as David is probably his best so far. With Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz playing Sofia and Julie, you almost forget they are acting as you become sucked into the film's two hour long narrative enigma.
