SWANSEA CITY 2 - Barry Town 0

(FAW Premier Cup)

A DISPUTED penalty and a goal which looked blatantly offside gave Swansea the win they needed to meet Cardiff in the final.

Barry played neat build up football but lacked the cutting edge. Shading the first half it was a penalty by Steve Walters that put the Swans in front. A Swansea corner found Toomey handling the ball, but he insisted that the ball hit his side.

Swansea were playing very deep first half but Barry failed to exploit the territorial advantage they had. Dave Toomey and Jamie Moralee were given little service but they both seemed to be off colour at the same time. Kenny Brown played himself in the central defensive role but would have been better in the deep midfield role allowing Andy York the central defensive role.

Off the hook

With Mike Flynn and Tom Ramasut playing too deep and not hurting Swansea, Barry let the Swans off the hook.

The second half saw Swansea move up defensively and Barry confident on the ball and looking comfortable never really troubled Roger Freestone in the home goal.

Reeling

A second goal for Swansea by John Williams from close range left Barry reeling claiming offside, referee Southall pointed to the spot for a goal. Not Barry's night but they gave a pretty good account of themselves.

Nevertheless Kenny needs to instill into the players a more clinical and ruthless approach. Just being a good football team is not enough.

Missing ingredient

Barry Town could have and should have won this match and the killer instinct seems to be the missing ingredient that let Barry down.

How the surging runs of Flynn and the tricky runs of Ramasut were missed as Barry underperformed on the big occasion!
