AMIDST the celebrations of a superb team performance in again winning the Welsh premier league, it is easy to forget that Barry Town could so easily have ceased to exist were it not for the tireless work of Kevin Green.
It is less than a year since he took over ownership of the club and saved arguably the most prestigious asset of the town.
Not only has he backed Kenny Brown in maintaining Barry's position as the best footballing club in the Welsh League, but he has set an example in civic responsibility.
He has opened up the club facilities to the people of Barry, set up a youth academy and is generally trying to integrate the club with the fabric of Barry life.
It is fitting that his work in preserving the traditional status of football within the town should be recognised.
