EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 24, 1952:

A complaint from Reverend D Collier of St Baruch's Church, Barry Island, was heard by members of Barry Parks and Open Spaces Committee at their meeting. In a letter to the committee the Reverend Collier said that the sounds of footballers playing on Maslin Park between the hours of 6pm and dusk on Sunday evenings created a source of annoyance to worshippers in his church.

Now that authority has been given to go full steam ahead with the erection of houses, the Barry Council has been quick to seize the opportunity.

The Old Age Pensioners of No 3 (Suburb) Branch were entertained by the Co-operative Juveniles on Wednesday of last week in a programme of songs and tap dancing.

The Barry Citizen's League held their annual dance at the Bindles' Ballroom on Easter Tuesday. A happy party of 200 members thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Barry Reserves continued their winning way at Jenner Park on Tuesday evening and by beating Porth 4-1 kept in the promotion hunt even if they did not altogether satisfy the crowd.

Arrangements for the visit of Sir Adrian Boult and the London Philharmonic Orchestra were discussed by members of the Entertainments Committee on Thursday.

Fears that vandals would wreck any chances of a successful marina type use of Barry's Old Harbour were expressed by Vale Borough councillors on Tuesday, when a suggestion that organised boat moorings should be established was put to a meeting of Council's Policy and Resources Committee.

Mr David Gay, Dip Arch (Wales) ARIBA, principal of the Barry Chartered architects Andrews, Gay and Partners, was in Cardiff on Saturday with Prime Minister James Callaghan at the official opening of the Salvation Army Cardiff Goodwill Community Centre.

Gibbonsdown Estates estimated 2,000 residents are almost at the end of their tether. Today (Thursday) the first spokesman from among themselves will be writing to tell the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council so, and warn the councillors of the possible repercussions if the residents' demands are not met.

A presentation of 19 pieces of Stewart crystal cut glass was made to Dr Mary Lennox on behalf of the Environmental Health Department at a dinner in honour of her and her husband.

Barry artist Marty St James helped by Rob Con, performed his "Within Those Blue-Grey Suits of Normality" in the theatre of Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff recently.
