BARRY is set to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in style with a five-day feast of fun and frolics.

The whole town is geared up to enjoy a right Royal rave-up to mark the Queen's 50 years on the throne - and it starts tomorrow.

Children are decking their school halls with Union Jack bunting and shops are all dressed up in red, white and blue.

The street parties are set to go off with a swing and there is a definite buzz in the air. In schools throughout the area the children have been making special Golden Jubilee decorations for weeks and many will hold a special party day on Friday.

But it's not just the tots who are looking forward to the fun. Many senior citizens' groups are delighted at the chance to relive the heady celebrations of 1953 by organising many a tea dance and knees-up.

Barry Island Historical Group are opening the community centre on June 1-3 for an insight into the history behind the crown.

But for those who like a right royal rave up, you are spoiled for choice.

With discos, lawn-parties, marquees and exhibitions arranged it's going to be a colourful event wherever you are.

A four-day event in Llantwit Major organised by Mike Williams of Nicholl Court looks like being as successful as the Waterfront event of last summer.

And there will be smaller street parties all across the Vale of Glamorgan from Friday, May 31 through to Tuesday, June 4.

So from Cadoxton to the Knap, the Docks to Gibbonsdown, Barry is going to be ringing with the sound of laughter and music as people get together to celebrate 50 years of the Queen's reign.
