Further to our letter on the state of the Knap Lido, we read with great interest that there is a possibility that Dow Corning may be able to give a grant to restore the Lido to its former glory.
An offer like this should be taken up and used for the good of the community and the businesses of Barry.
A thriving Knap Lido will bring business to the area and to Barry, the council will benefit from increased income from car parking fees.
The Knap can then see the many visitors that it used to enjoy many years ago when we were in the Barry Lifeguard club. as was shown in the BBC Homelands programme transmitted in September 1997.
This showed the huge number of people in the Lido on cine film that I had shot in the 1950s.
From far off South Africa, the Knap Lido is not forgotten and the people of Barry should get behind a scheme to rejuvinate it, and badger the council to get off their backsides and make a positive proposal.
