EXTRACTS of the Barry & District News of June 19, 1952:

Setting an example in sporting achievements which is going to be difficult to emulate is Clive Phillips of Romilly School, who on Wednesday won the 100 and 220 yards finals of the Secondary School Sports for the second year in succession.

At the Penmark Parish meeting on Thursday Sir Hugo Boothby reported that 82 new houses were now completed, and there were 66 building in Romilly Road.

Four members of the Barry Road Cycling Club entered in Gwent Cycling Club's open middle markers "25" time trial on Sunday. First home was B Scully West Mon RC.

The newly formed social section of the Barry Civil Defence Corps had a good start with a whist drive and dance at the Memorial Hall on Thursday when upwards of 150 were present.

"Variety Highlights" the musical and dancing show presented by Miss Hilda Gill, concluded its successful run this season when it was presented for the last time on Wednesday.

The Bardic Chair and illuminated scroll bequeathed by Madame Gwenllian Beynon in her will, published recently have been presented to the Barry Borough Council.

Whilst on holiday at Butlin's Holiday Camp, Skegness, Mr Dunn and Mrs Jeffreys, of Coygne Terrace, Barry Docks, entered and were successful in a preliminary heat of the 6th Butlin Valeta Competition.

EXTRACTS of the Barry & District News of June 16, 1977:

No less than 11 people with Barry connections have been awarded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal, given for outstanding service of some kind within the last 25 years.

Michelle Lewis daughter of Police Sergeant and Mrs Wyn Lewis, of Liscum Way, Highlight, a pupil of Ysgol Sant Ffransis won the under eight competition in the Urdd National Eisteddfod that had been held in Barry, with an essay called "Ty Ni" (Our House).

Mr D H Bradford, of the consumer unit, was the guest speaker at the St Nicholas Darby and Joan Club.

A Jubilee party was held for the children and adults in Oxford Street. The fancy dress competition for children was judged by Mr and Mrs A Tucker, formerly of Ethiopia (missionary).

Royal Air Force St Athan became part of the new Royal Air Force Support Command on Monday. The RAF's newest Command is the result of merging the existing training and support commands.
