BEFORE condemning the use of Sully Hospital by asylum seekers it is worth considering why these people are so desperate to leave their homes and take the risks they do, not just with their own lives but also those of their families.

Our politicians and media have whipped us up into frenzy. They have conveniently forgotten to mention why these people are here and what they have had to endure to get here.

I cannot believe that we are so easily led that many are now crying out for the site to be sold and developed before these abhorred masses descend upon us in hordes and burn our houses!

While some of these people will be so called "economic migrants" a great many of them will have fled their homes in fear of their lives, taking with them nothing more than they could hold in their hands.

These people have been through hell, most of them have been traumatised and brutalised in some way. After all they have suffered I think that Sully Hospital, with its grounds and coastline, would be a perfect place for them to begin to repair themselves.

The only thing I can think of that will aid their recovery more than this wonderful setting would be for them to feel as if they were among friends while they were here.

I am disappointed that more people haven't voiced this opinion. How many religions preach tolerance, love and acceptance. Where is your voice?

If we are willing to inconvenience ourselves a little, we can help these people beyond measure. We should be proud enough and strong enough to stand up and welcome them.
