A BARRY man who gave up everything to make his dreams come true is on the way to stardom.

Al Wilson left his safe job as a carpenter to try to make it in the world of film. And now it looks like he is definitely on the way up.

Two years after launching Tantrwm Productions, he is looking to break into the festival circuit with his partner Andrew Chainy.

They met while on a course in Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, set up the company a year ago and have already been short-listed for a number of film-making awards.

Al, of Tynewydd Road, told the News: "To fund our own projects, Andrew and I film short sequences for councils and education boards. We get paid for these jobs, so we'll be able to pay any actors.

"But to make it easier for everyone involved, we're trying to build up a file of people who are interested in acting. We'd be able to pay them a small amount, but they can use the experience as part of their CV."

Although educational programmes may sound quite dull, Al is excited about Tantrwm's plans for the future.

He added: "Andrew and I have three films set up. One is definitely going ahead. We've got permission to start filming over the Knap in the next three weeks.

"This is why we've got to get the ball rolling. We need men aged between 18 and 30 to audition for one of four characters in this gritty drama. We'll pay expenses, and they will get copies of the film on VHS to add to their portfolio."

The cameraman and script writer is eager to hear from anyone who wants to break into acting.

He added: "You don't need any experience. Just get in touch and we'll set up an audition."
