I WONDER if readers realise the Vale of Glamorgan Council is run by a cabinet of 10 councillors, all Conservatives. Do readers also realise that even though the population of Barry represents more than half the total population of the Vale of Glamorgan, only one of the cabinet councillors comes from Barry?

I believe the results of that are these: l when council cuts are made, Barry is first in line; the Gibbonsdown Children's Centre being a recent example.

it has taken so long to redevelop the Barry Town Hall, Central Park and library.

Holton Road, High Street and Main Street suffer from a serious lack of investment and vision.

we are missing the once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a vibrant dock waterfront instead of a housing estate.

the Vale Council prefers to cut the rates of the Glamorgan foxhunt.

the Vale Council wanted to spend £350,000 on a golfing tournament instead of a children's centre.

Finally, I believe that one day the people of Barry will wake up and realise what is happening to their once-proud town.

Rob Curtis, Gibbonsdown ward councillor, Merthyr Dyfan Road, Barry.
