A TEACHER has taken on the role of co-ordinating a new national initiative to develop physical education and sports experiences in primary and secondary schools across the Vale.
Vale of Glamorgan Council has appointed Kelly Toshack as its new PE and school sports co-ordinator as part of a project funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and supported by the Sports Council for Wales.
The project aims to promote a common vision for improving standards in PE and school sport, including developing and enhancing transitional links between primary and secondary schools.
Kelly, who is an enthusiastic sportswoman and has taught at secondary school level for the past two years, believes there should be more recognition of PE and sport in schools.
She said: "We are well on our way to enhancing PE and sport as a subject in schools and I believe that sport should be accessible to all.
"Hopefully this project, in co-ordination with the current work in sports development in the Vale, will improve people's perceptions of sport and develop healthier generations."
Kelly is based at the council's Barry Dock Office and can be contacted on 01446 704809.
