With reference to the removal of 'Monkey Steps'. I remember quite vividly the many times I have spent going to and from Barry Island via the Docks. Of the numerous times I made this journey both as child when working on the fairground and as a adult either walking or riding my cycle. I cannot recall seeing a person representing the Docks who denied me access.
I wonder what other memories I may have in twenty years or so.
I do hope they will also be pleasant memories and not ones of ABP denying a local community of a vital access to the town centre - telling my grandchildren (I haven't any at present) of the time when ABP closed the steps to the Island.
Despite holding what appeared to be productive talks with representatives of the Island residents chaired by Jane Hutt, the board sent in heavy plant to destroy the steps early one morning so that residents could not mobilise and prevent it as they had done previously.
No wonder the Islanders were incensed.
