LLANTWIT MAJOR 1, SULLY

SPORTS 4

SULLY Sports Senior League team won a hard fought local derby to reach the last eight of the South Wales Senior Cup, where they will entertain the unbeaten Ynyshir Albion.

Sully put in a mediocre first half and went behind after 20 minutes when a Llantwit player benefited from a Sully slip to score.

The second half saw a much more positive Sully effort and the equaliser came when Elliott Palmer lost his marker and fired home.

This was the signal for Sully to press home their territorial advantage and they went ahead when Scott Hopkins shot home from ten yards.

Llantwit pressed again but found Bobby Brown and Mike Lewis outstanding. The midfield battle was edging towards Sully's Hodkinson and Ryan, and the Villagers went further ahead when Richard Yarr waltzed between two defenders before finding the net.

Yarr scored the goal of the match to give Sully a comfortable last ten minutes.

This Saturday Sports visit Fochriw, leaving at 12.30pm sharp.

ST ATHAN 2

The Vets avenged a nine-goal defeat in the cup with this deserved victory, as a very different St Athan lined up at Swanbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan League Division 2.

Honours were even at 2-2 at half-time, but the Vets finished well to keep their unbeaten record this year with goals by Mathew Warner 2, David Whittaker and Jeff Niblett seeing them home.

This Saturday the Vets entertain Cadoxton Athletic.

GREEK CYPRIOT ASS 1

SWANBRIDGE STARS 0

Stars visited high-flying Premier Division Cypriots without top scorer Fergie, and lost by a single goal as they failed to convert any of their chances against a strong, home defence.

To their credit, the team never gave up and could have produced a shock result, but fortune smiled on the Greeks who progress to the next round of the Cardiff Lazarou Sunday League Challenge Cup.

This Sunday Stars visit Haley Park in the league, leaving at 10am.
