BARRY based ProKart team OSB Motorsport enjoyed a dream start to the 2004 season on Sunday as driver Michael Hamilton dominated the opening round of the Llandow Kart Club Senior ProKart Championship.

Hamilton, 20, won all three heats and the final in style, aboard his 70mph twin-engine machine to take a commanding early Championship lead in the Senior ProKart class.

"What a brilliant day," claimed a slightly stunned Hamilton, who had only done three hours of testing on his new kart prior to the first race of the day.

"We only collected it from the manufacturer on Thursday and I didn't think it would go as well as it did," he continued. "I was aiming for third so I'm shocked more than anything."

With no less than four entries, OSB Motorsport were well represented in a large field of ProKarts with team co-owner Craig Camilleri coming home third after winning a race-long battle with defending Welsh Champion Paul Saunders. Camilleri eventually edged Saunders by just three tenths of a second.

"I'm thrilled for Mikey," said Camilleri. "Like he said, we're shocked with how quick he was. The rest of us had several teething troubles during the day due to a lack of testing but by the next round they will be ironed out."

Ex-Barry Comprehensive pupils Henry Beaudette and Tom Davenport also drove strongly in the final to finish sixth and ninth respectively with Davenport's showing especially praiseworthy in his first ever MSA licenced event.

"On Monday I was told I couldn't race because my licence application wouldn't be approved in time," beamed the 20-year-old Kenilworth Road resident. "It has been a manic week and I'd like to thank my doctor for allowing me to take my medical exam at short notice and the Motor Sports Association for rushing through my application forms. I spent four hours on the phone to them on Friday and the licence finally arrived on Saturday morning."

OSB have also renewed their sponsorship deal with High Street-based company Phoenix Light Haulage for the 2004 season and are seeking other companies to join Phoenix, Bar Cubana's, Ask Frank and Selective Mini Spares in their activities.
