WHEN I started driving more than 60 years ago, motorists could be excused for trying to save their car batteries by not lighting up too soon!

The batteries were only six volt and not heavy duty.

There is no excuse today with 12 volt heavy duty batteries available for so many cars being driven through the shopping centres and Waterfront roads with no lights or only side lights, well after lighting-up times.

Surely those drivers must be finding it difficult to see where they are going?
