IN the years before and during World War II my family's main holiday was to visit my grandparents who lived in the bungalow overlooking the Knap Lake.

Many were the times that I fell into the clear water of the lake - the only worry for my mother was to find enough clothing coupons to keep me in utility' branded shorts.

Now the worry would be to obtain medical attention as quickly as possible to prevent salmonella poisoning or the growth of webbed feet.

Surely all Barrians will support Cllr Jeffrey James in his expressed intention 'to manage the refilled ornamental lake and to progressively improve the whole area.' Will he take note of the 'Lake Answer' provided by Mr Charles Pugh in his excellent letter? (Barry & District News, February 24)

A properly remunerated uniformed ranger service based on an expansion of the excellent service already provided in Porthkerry Park should be extended to cover all the parks throughout Barry and the Vale.

And why not seek to recruit a voluntary youth section to provide assistance?
