EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 10, 1955:

* Tom White, manager of the Western Welsh (Barry Depot) presented "The Order of Knight of the Road" to driver David John Richardson of College Road, Barry.

* The old-established company Barry Herald Ltd, newspaper proprietors and stationers, has been acquired by Penray Press Ltd, a new company whose directors include Raymond Gower, Conservative MP for Barry, and Neville Penry Thomas, a London journalist.

* Mr E J Pugh, of Court Road, Barry, a customs and excise officer who only took up photography seriously about three years ago, carried off three of the four major awards at the Barry Camera Club's 1955 annual exhibition.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of March 13, 1980:

* The new Mayor-elect of Barry, for the second year running, is an employee of Dow Corning, Cllr Donald John Whitchurch of Hunter Street, Barry.

* Following a protest from the Barry Town Council, the Vale council's Public Works and Planning Committee has said if the town council wish to refurbish a horse drinking trough, proposed to be moved from Court Road, Barry to Cosmeston Country Park, and replace it at a suitable location, there would be no objections.

* Domestic ratepayers in Barry face increases of around 23 per cent next year - the lowest in the Vale area.

* Members of the Barry Jogging Club hope to have raised in the region of 1,000 from their mara-thon run on St David's Day, the money donated towards minor casualty unit to be opened in Barry in October.
