A RENOWNED and beloved store is under new ownership, but fear not it’s still going to continue to be a “good old fashioned sweet shop”.
Previous owner of Umpa Lumpa’s, Karen Dunlop, has sold the business to Mr Cameron Morgan and fiancée Lily.
Mr Morgan, 23, and Lily, 19, from Barry, have big plans to keep Ms Dunlop’s hard work over the past 10 years going.
Ms Dunlop owned Umpa Lumpa's, based in Windsor Arcade, Penarth, since 2014, developing the online side of trading and utilising that mysterious platform known as ‘social media’.
Now, Mr Cameron wants to take Umpa Lumpa’s to yet another level.
While he ensures Umpa Lumpa's regular sweet-toothed clientele that much of the store will remain the same – including its famous retro vibe - there will be some added extras, most pertinent being candy floss!
Mr Cameron wants to introduce a candy floss machine and intends to train staff to make stunning sculptures out of candy in the likes of bears and bouquets of flowers.
Also, Umpa Lumpa’s will now serve ice cream all year round (“yes!”) and there are plans to get involved and host more events.
They’ll also be a slight rebrand in a new logo with a black and pink theme.
All these exciting plans have led Ms Dunlop to feel confident her former business is in safe hands.
On the sale, she said: “We are delighted to be passing the stewardship of our high-profile Penarth business to Cameron and Lily.
“We look forward to seeing Cameron and Lilly take the business to the next level.”
New owner, Mr Morgan, who trained as an accountant and has always dreamed of owning his own business, said: “We are delighted to be taking the reigns of this fantastic business.
“We see an exciting future for this business and Penarth and look forward to working with the community and our team to move from strength to strength.”
Ms Dunlop added her thanks to the public for their support over the years.
“I would like to thank all our loyal customers for their support and custom over the past 10 years and wish them well.
“I have very much enjoyed working with our fabulous local businesses and the wider community.”
