SUTTON are hoping for a miracle to rival Newport County AFC’s great escape when they head to Milton Keynes Dons in League Two tomorrow.

Steve Morison’s men have taken their battle to survival to last day thanks to a fine run of form since mid-March.

However, they are clinging onto their Football League status and are likely to join already relegated Forest Green in dropping out of the 92.

Sutton trail Colchester by three points and have to win in Buckinghamshire and then hope the U’s, who had a chance to secure safety when beaten by Doncaster in midweek, fall to defeat against Crewe.

Sutton’s goal difference is -25 while Colchester’s is -21.

The sixth-placed Railwaymen head to Essex at risk of dropping out of their play-offs if they lose and Barrow, who host promoted Mansfield, and Crawley, who entertain Grimsby, both win.

There are six teams in contention for the final three spots in the play-offs, although Walsall need three results to go their way plus a swing in goal difference.

Doncaster have gone from 19th on March 9 to fifth thanks to 10 straight wins and just need a point at Gillingham.

Bradford, ninth, need to become the eighth successive side to beat County and to then hope Barrow and Crawley slip up.

The final side dropping down from League One to join County in the fourth tier next season will be decided before kick-off at Valley Parade.

Carlisle, Port Vale and Fleetwood are already down with Cheltenham still alive after their midweek win against Peterborough.

The Robins need to beat Stevenage away (12.30pm) while hoping that Burton Albion fail to claim three points at Fleetwood.

Cambridge are also at risk and need a point from their game at Port Vale to retain their League One status.

Meanwhile, the battle to join champions Chesterfield in coming up from the National League reaches play-off semi-final stage.

Former County captain Joss Labadie helped Solihull Moors to a 4-2 win against Halifax on Wednesday.

The West Midlands side have a rapid turnaround to an away game at Barnet on Saturday evening (5.30pm).

Bromley host Altrincham in the other semi on Sunday (4pm) with the final taking place at Wembley on Sunday, May 5 (3pm).
