A Vale of Glamorgan radio station has launched its community awards to celebrate 'all that's great' about the community.

Bro Radio, marking its 15-year milestone, has resurrected its Community Awards to applaud the distinct merits of the residents in the area.

Announced on the station’s Vale Breakfast on Monday, the awards will honour achievements across business, community, sport, volunteering and personal accomplishments in eleven categories.

Residents are asked to nominate a person or group they feel has positively influenced life in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Andrew Fenton of Chris Davies Estate Agents, the award's sponsors, said: "We're not a big corporate, we're local and Vale of Glamorgan, so we want to do anything we can to support local charities, community groups and sports clubs wherever we can."

The award categories are: Young Person, Volunteer, Teacher, Sports Club, Community Group, Business, Entrepreneur of the Year awards as well as The Charity Award, Community Champion and Triumph Over Adversity awards.

Nominations are open until 11.59pm on May 3.

The finalists will be announced at Penarth Pier Pavilion on June 7.
