THE White Cat Theatre Group will be bringing Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit to Dinas Powys this spring.
The theatre group will be performing the production from Thursday, April 11, to Saturday, April 13, at the Parish and Lee Hall in Dinas Powys.
Hayden Manuell, director of the company's fourth show in Dinas Powys said: “It is undeniable that Margaret Rutherford’s portrayal of Madame Arcati is truly iconic. Noel Coward wrote the role for her, and it is a challenge that our fantastic cast is revelling in.
“Coward truly coveys the struggle of Charles Condomine after his first wife, Elvira, magically appears and the tension that builds with his second wife, Ruth. All while the star of the show is Madame Arcati who leaves the audience in stitches.”
Blithe Spirit sees socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, invite an eccentric medium and clairvoyant Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book.
The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his wilful and temperamental first wife, Elvira, after the séance. Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.
The original film was released in 1945 starring Dame Margaret Rutherford as Madame Arcati but was given a modern spin in the 2020 film adaptation with Dame Judi Dench starring in the role.
Doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 7.30pm. A bar will be operating before the show and in the interval selling beers, wine, soft drinks, crisps, and sweets. The venue are accepting Cash and card accepted.
