ON BOXING Day many of us will be looking for ways to burn off the excess turkey and sweets eaten over Christmas with a festive walk.

There are so many places across the Vale of Glamorgan that have scenic views and are perfect for a walk.

Here at the Barry and District News and Penarth Times, we compiled a list of the top five places to go for a walk this Boxing Day.

Porthkerry Park to The Knap - Barry

This is a fun route to do with the family, as there as so many things to see along the way, such as stopping off at the adventure playground for children to blow off steam.

The walk is three miles, or 5km, long.

Cosmeston Lakes – Sully

This circular walk around the lake has plenty of woodland trails and a massive lake. It’s a walk that the whole family can enjoy.

Penarth to Cardiff Bay Barrage – Penarth and Cardiff

This is a popular route for walking, cycling, or running which takes around two-and-a-half hours to complete and is open all year round.

Barry Island Circular - Barry

Start at the yellow boot at the RNLI station, and take a walk up the pirate mini golf, past the beach huts up to Nells Point.

Aberthaw Lake – Barry

This walk has a scenic view of a castle and the lake, and it takes an average of 57 minutes to complete.
