WORK has begun to improve a road to a household waste recycling centre which has previously labelled by the Vale Council leader as “horrendous”.

In February, it was revealed the council had found a potential site to construct a replacement facility for Llandow Recycling Centre, however this never materialised.

In March, Vale Council said it would be wonderful to find a replacement for the recycling centre, labelled “horrendous” by Cllr Lis Burnett.

Now, in a joint project between the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the landowner, access is being improved to the recycling site.

The council is also negotiating an extension to the current lease at the site, while efforts to find a new permanent location for this facility continue.

Phase one of the scheme has seen road resurfacing carried out by the landowner on Tumlus Way, with further work scheduled for the new year.

Once this is complete, the council say they will begin repairing the road on the immediate approach to the recycling centre.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet member for neighbourhood and building services said: "I am delighted that work has started to upgrade the road access to the recycling site in Llandow.

“These improvements have been requested by residents for many years and are also something local Councillors have been campaigning for.

“We are still actively seeking a suitable location for a new Household Waste Recycling Centre in the Western Vale, but securing an appropriate site with good access for vehicles is proving challenging and will take longer to complete.

“In the meantime, I’m delighted that I have been able to secure the start of these long-awaited road improvements which will benefit residents of the Vale who use this facility.”
