A SERIES of 78 new CCTV cameras have been fitted across Barry, Penarth, and Llantwit Major as part of a new arrangement between South Wales Police and the council.

The partnership funded the upgrade of 78 static cameras, which were fitted in East Dock Road, Kings Square, Rhoose Train Station, Penarth Esplanade, and Cowbridge High Street.

In 2022 the council entered a partnership with Cardiff Council and South Wales Police to maximise the effectiveness of CCTV monitoring across the region.

Cllr Sandra Perkes, Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet member for public sector housing and tenant engagement said: “I’m delighted to see the completion of the Vale’s CCTV upgrade and look forward to hearing more success stories on how the new network of cameras are keeping our communities safe.

“The new system will support the partnership in implementing real-time solutions to issues, identifying criminals, and deterring criminal activity, ultimately ensuring the Vale continues to be a safe and pleasant place to live, work and visit.”

The new network of cameras is monitored 24/7 at Cardiff Council’s control room and a new viewing facility in Barry Police Station, giving the Council and South Wales Police the ability to respond to issues more rapidly.
