LIKE it or loathe it’s here, so we got into the spirit and took a look at what you could get at Barry’s Poundland for a fiver to help you endure, or enjoy, a spooktacular Halloween – and you know what, we were pleasantly surprised.

Because in fact we didn’t spend a fiver, but £4.50, and for that we got a chainsaw, a mask, a trick-or-treat bag, and an axe sticking out our head...

You don’t need to go crazy over-the-top American style to celebrate All Saints Day.

If you are a Halloween fan, or if you’re not but you’re tagging along, and you need something quick and cheap, Barry’s Poundland is just the trick…

The Halloween section was one aisle, but in that aisle were some nifty items.

There was an impressive range of masks from Frankenstein to a very shiny gold skull – all priced from £1.50 to £3.

There were wickedly cool candle holders at either £3 or £5.

Mugs and glasses were on hand (excuse the pun) to celebrate the day at £2 each, there were decorations, and more!

The store also had a fearsome range of decorated headbands, including witch’s hats, devil’s horns, and sparkly bat wings – we went for the axe sticking out the head headband at £1.50...

There was also trick-or-treat bags sturdy enough to hold a good kilo of chocolate and ghoulishly delicious goodies kids might pick up on the night, and as soon as we saw it we grabbed it.

It’s probably the most flimsy chainsaw ever, but it’s a chainsaw, and it only cost £1!

Our verdict: To some it might seem like capitalist tat, however cost of living bites and for £4.50 to keep the kids entertained we have to say Poundland did a good job.

Have a spooktacular Halloween everybody!
