TENNIS courts in Wenvoe have re-opened following improvement works by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the UK Government, and the Lawn Tennis Association.

The courts at Wenvoe Park were refurbished as part of the UK Government and Lawn Tennis Association's £30 million investment programme.

The refurbishment comes after courts at Romley Park and Millwood Park in Barry re-opened following a refurbishment to improve surfaces last summer.

The courts opened in July 2022 following improvements to include modern surfaces and a new gate system.

Vale MP Alun Cairns was joined by Simon Johnson, chief executive of Tennis Wales, and Wenvoe councillor Russell Godfrey, who welcomed the impressive renovation.

Mr Cairns said: “Having seen the state of the courts previously, this investment has brought a local sporting facility back to life for Wenvoe and the local areas.”

“Tennis is a fantastic sport that has so many benefits, from physical to mental health, so I would encourage residents to pick up a racket and give it a go.”

The tennis courts at Wenvoe Park were in poor condition before the renovation and now have been refurbished with new modern surfaces.

Mr Johnson added: “It is great to see the renovated Wenvoe Park open to the public.

“It is one of many park tennis courts which were in poor, or unplayable, condition being brought back to life in Wales through the Parks Tennis Project.

"Park tennis courts are so important to the community and are vital for getting children and adults active, delivering significant physical and mental wellbeing benefits.”

All courts will be available to book through the LTA’s online platform, helping to make it far easier to find and book a court, as well as tennis lessons or other activities, based on location, date and time.

The two courts at Wenvoe Park can be booked for a half hour session priced at £2.25.
