THERE were extraordinary scenes, stories and photos at this year’s Barry 10K.

One of those stories was that of a group of teens running in aid of their friend who tragically took her own life.

Lauren Wilson died in April. In heartfelt scenes, mum Debra was on the start line on Sunday to cheer on her daughter’s friends as they raised money for suicide-awareness.

Despite the drab summer weather we’ve been having so far, it was a glorious sunny day for the run, with near-ideal running conditions – not too windy and not too hot.

Run 4 Wales organised the event and chief executive Matt Newman was delighted with the success of the race.

Mr Newman said: “Being born and raised in Barry, it’s always special seeing thousands of runners descend on the town for the ABP Barry Island 10K. The support today has been absolutely fantastic so it’s been a really enjoyable weekend.”
