TRYING to bring life back to the high street, that’s how a recently opened flea market in the Vale has been described.

Led by Blayze Fashion, a flea market in Penarth goes from strength to strength, and last weekend it had the most stalls it’d ever had in store, with nearly the whole retail floor taken up.

New stalls that joined included arts and crafts, and also ‘charmed I am sure jewellery’, with handmade jewellery made by the lovely Christine.

Christine previously sold her wares at The Port pop-up shops in Newport, but when the Port was closed due to not making enough money, Christine said she had to find a new place to keep her business alive, and that’s when she found the flea market at the former Kitcheners shop.

Christine said she liked the Port, due to it being open throughout the week, which meant she had a permanent base for her business, but now it’s closed she has to go where the work is, packing her suitcase, jumping on to trains and buses, and going where the customers are.

Christine said she loves Penarth’s flea market, on the town's Windsor Road, and if it’s a success, she hopes to make this her new permanent home.

“I just love the whole concept of it,” said Christine. “It’s trying to bring back life to the high street. I love coming in. I feel like I've been here for years.”

Owner of Blayze Fashions, Jacqui, said the flea market is picking up, and now she’s offering a special deal.

“Currently I am offering £15 for them to come try the site out for one day,” said Jacqui. “We’re also flexible. You can book one, two, three days, a week, a month, what you feel like. Just contact me.”

There’s also some emotional news with Debra the giant zebra statue at the retro store at the back of the market, having given birth to a new mini zebra, currently named Mr Stripey…
