TWO schools in Barry got a special mention on national TV last night.

Jamie Oliver was on The One Show yesterday evening, June 29, to promote The Jamie Oliver Good School Food Awards and announce the winner of the ‘rising star’ category.

While on the show he made special mention to not one by two schools in Barry.

Cadoxton Primary, on Victoria Park Road, and Oak Field Primary, in Gibbons Down, were both highlighted for their exceptional work in helping give their pupils healthy, nourishing school meals.

On the schools, Mr Oliver said they are taking care of their communities.

“They are responding to what is happening in the big wide world,” Mr Oliver told Alex Jones on The One Show.

“They have food available in a shipping container, they are growing some of that as well, they are doing a fair share programme. They are selling it at prices people can afford and just looking after the community, so the kids are learning about growing, cooking and selling stuff. I think it’s really good."

And so did the leader of Vale of Glamorgan Council. The schools’ mention by one of the UK’s most famous chefs wasn’t lost on Cllr Lis Burnett who tweeted, “Yay!
