A PARAMEDIC has described how he can go to work only to wait outside A&E the whole shift.

The revelation comes as ambulance workers continue to strike over pay and working conditions.

Today, February 23, the ambulance service is holding another 24-hour strike as Unite announced further strike action taking place throughout February and March.

In an explosive revelation, Nathan Moruzzi, who is based in Barry and has been with the service three and half years, says it is not uncommon for him to come on shift and spend the whole time waiting to get into A&E.

Asked what the most shocking thing he is seeing in the job at the moment, Mr Moruzzi said: “The length of time we have been waiting outside A&E.

“It is not rare for us to start our shift, relieve the night crew that have been waiting at A&E and then we’re waiting outside A&E the whole shift before being relieved by another night crew again.”

Mr Moruzzi called for the government to work more with the unions and make approachable and agreeable targets in order to break the deadlock over negotiations.

“Since I started here previous to any pandemic, we’ve always been over stretched and undervalued in terms of our working conditions that is why we are striking,” said Nathan.

“It is not about the pay but about the whole of the NHS being over-stretched and undervalued and used incorrectly.”

Dates for further strike action have been announced with walkouts by the ambulance service on the February 6 and 20, and the same dates in March.
