TWO new war memorial benches have been installed in Barry.
The additions, which overlook Gladstone Gardens, were arranged through a collaborative effort between Barry Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The benches were designed and manufactured by David Ogilvie Engineering Limited, based in Scotland.
The benches feature a special commemorative design of soldiers and poppies, as well as a personalised plaque. Both councils funded a bench each, with the Vale of Glamorgan Council also covering the cost of installation.
Cabinet members Cllr Mark Wilson and Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, and Veterans Champion, Cllr Ian Buckley, were joined by other members from both councils for the official unveiling of the benches.
Cabinet member for neighbourhood and building services, Cllr Mark Wilson, said: “These benches are a welcome addition to the gardens, which are peacefully enjoyed by so many residents.
“As Remembrance Day approaches, it is important for us to celebrate the heroes who fought for our country and freedom.
“I was honoured to attend today’s official opening and support this fantastic initiative.”
Barry’s 2022 Remembrance parade and service will take place on Sunday, November 13.
