A MAN with a history of violence against women has been jailed for attacks on another female victim.

Shane Cotty, 25, from Barry was locked up for assaulting a woman, firstly at a hotel, and then at her home.

The defendant, of Holton Road, repeatedly punched his victim who was hit in the face, head and ribs, Tabitha Walker, prosecuting, said.

The woman nearly “blacked out” and had wet herself as a result of the incidents, Cardiff Crown Court was told.

Cotty pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and battery.

He also admitted causing criminal damage to her mobile phone.

The offences took place earlier this year.

Cotty was on licence at the time of the offences after being jailed for another attack on a different victim, the court heard.

Derrick Gooden, representing the defendant, said in mitigation how his client was sorry for his actions.

The court was also told to take into account the defendant's young age.

Judge Paul Hobson told Cotty: “These were sustained acts of violence by you.

“There can be no doubt that this behaviour had a significant impact on (the complainant).

“She says in her victim impact statement that you should rethink how you treat women.

“I couldn’t have put it better myself.”

Judge Hobson added: “Your case is aggravated by your record and the offences were committed while you were on licence.

“They were committed hot on the heels of your previous term of imprisonment.”

Cotty was jailed for 20 months and told he would serve half of that time in custody before being released on licence.

The defendant was made the subject of a restraining order not to contact his victim which will last for three years.

He was also ordered to pay a statutory victim surcharge following his release from jail.
