A NEW food hub has been launched in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The More Than Food Hub has been launched under the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Llantwit Food Project Partnership led by Food Vale and funded by the National Lottery’s Community Fund.

The launch took place across the CF61 Community Centre and Illtud House in Llantwit Major and coincided with Age Connects launch of their new office at Illtud House, where GVS is based.

The More Than Food Hub will take place on the third Thursday of each month, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, alongside the Chatty Café.

Residents can access many services including help, advice, and support on a range of topics, access to cooking demonstrations and more at the monthly More Than Food Hub.

The existing FoodShare at CF61 has transitioned to a pantry model where people can pay a small fee to access affordable food every Thursday between 12.30pm and 2pm.

Vale Council cabinet member for social care and heath, Cllr Eddie Williams, said: “I’m pleased that we’re able to develop much needed services such as the Llantwit Major More Than Food Hub.

“Access to affordable, healthy and nutritious food is one of the core principles underpinning Food Vale’s work.

“The cost-of-living crisis is currently affecting many families and individuals throughout the Vale and there are some fantastic groups and organisations that are working hard to alleviate the stresses associated with it.”

Operations manager at Glamorgan Voluntary Services (GVS), Paul Warren,  said they are "incredibly proud" to support and be a key partner of this initiative.

“The fact that people in our community may not have enough food to put on their plates should be everybody’s concern," said Mr Warren.

“The good news is that we can all play a part in doing something about it.

"More Than Food will make a vital contribution towards ensuring that our essential service continues to reduce food poverty and increase food security.”
