THIS year the Rhoose Remembrance Day parade and service will take place on Sunday, November 13.

The service will be held at the Rhoose Community Hall, Stewart Road, Rhoose, immediately following the laying of the wreaths at 10.55am.

Local adult and youth organisations, along with any individuals, are invited to support the parade and service.

Organisations that have a standard are welcome to bear them with pride. Serving and retired servicemen are particularly welcome and - as always - will have seats reserved at the front of the hall.

The parade will assemble in Wesley Avenue and be ready to start off promptly at 10.30am. Those who do not wish to join the parade may go straight to the Community Hall.

Event organiser, Jeffrey James, said:

"This year marks the eightieth anniversary of the second battle of El Alamein, which was a turning point for the Western Desert campaign and was a great land battle won by the 8th Army made up of British and Commonwealth forces.

"In recognition of such bravery it would be most fitting for us to have a good turnout in the parade and at the service.

"As well as remembering those who fought and fell in the two world wars we will also remember that there are brave young men and women serving in other conflicts and peacekeeping missions around the world and some who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. "

Reverend Melanie Prince will be leading the service with representatives of other denominations offering prayers.

The Women’s Institute (Rhoose branch) is providing light refrehsments to all those attending at the end of the service.
