RECENTLY a number of Sea Cadets from the Barry unit travelled to Southport in Lancashire to compete in the Sea Cadet National Sailing and Windsurfing Regatta.
Leading Cadet Edwards and Able Cadet Edwards came first in the Open Quest section, thanks to coming first in two of the four races they sailed.
They thereby helped South West Area Cadets win the Overall Dinghy Section Trophy and the 2022 Overall Regatta Trophy.
Alison Edwards, the officer in charge of Barry Sea Cadets, said: “We are extremely proud as a unit to have won the Open Quest section.
"They both sailed extremely well.
"I am not only proud as unit OIC but also proud as a mum having them both at a national event and doing so well.”
Barry Sea Cadets parade every Monday and Thursday evening. They aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures members learn teamwork, respect, loyalty, self-confidence, commitment, self-discipline, honesty and how to be the best version of themselves.
